Nicolas W. Steenland
Counsel
Nicolas W. Steenland is a committed advocate with more than ten years of litigation experience. He serves the firm’s civil rights clients seeking redress for violations of their constitutional rights and the firm’s commercial clients to address their complex business disputes.
Mr. Steenland began his career in the litigation group of the largest law firm in Atlanta, Alston & Bird LLP. There, he represented clients in a wide range of federal and state court matters involving breach of contract, antitrust, eminent domain, and restrictive covenants.
After nearly five years in private practice, Mr. Steenland went on to clerk for two federal court judges in the Southern District of New York. In that role, he researched and drafted decisions on federal matters involving civil rights claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, breach of contract, arbitration, insurance, and other subject areas.
Mr. Steenland has also served as an enforcement counsel for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). While at FINRA, he led investigations into violations of FINRA rules and securities laws by issuing discovery requests, taking testimony, and recommending and negotiating resolutions of FINRA matters.
Mr. Steenland received his JD from The University of Chicago Law School. During law school, he interned at the Office of the Georgia Capital Defender and served in the law school’s Federal Criminal Justice Clinic.
